About The somatic Shift
A Different Kind of Wellness Space
The Somatic Shift was created to offer a different kind of wellness experience.
One where strength, nervous system health, and personal growth can exist together — instead of being treated as separate paths.
Most people only have the time or structure to focus on one area of their wellbeing at a time.
Fitness, stress management, or personal growth — often addressed separately, depending on what feels most urgent.
But when these areas begin working together, the impact is much more powerful. That’s where real, lasting quality of life starts to take shape.
You can build physical strength and still feel overwhelmed or stuck in certain patterns. You can work on mindset and still feel stress living in the body.
At The Somatic Shift, our approach is simple:
True wellness happens when we support the whole person — body, nervous system, and inner awareness.
That’s why our studio weaves together strength training, somatic practices, breathwork, and coaching under one roof.
Why We Built This Space
Like many people in the wellness industry, we both began by working in more traditional environments.
Gyms often focused heavily on performance or appearance.
Personal development spaces sometimes focused only on the mind
But over time we began noticing something important.
People could build strength, lose weight, and improve their habits — yet still feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in deeper life patterns.
At the same time, people doing emotional or mindset work often felt disconnected from their physical health and energy.
It became clear that wellness works best when these areas are integrated, not separated.
This realization wasn’t just something we saw in others — it came from our own personal journeys as well.
Through our own experiences with stress, growth, and healing, we began to understand how deeply connected the body, nervous system, and personal patterns really are.
That perspective now shapes everything we offer inside this space.
The Somatic Shift was created from that realization.
A place where people can strengthen their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and explore personal growth in a supportive environment.
Not as separate practices — but as parts of a more complete approach to wellbeing.
Meet the Founders
Lauren Melendez, Co-Founder
Lauren helps people create lasting change from the inside out by working with both the body and mind together.
She brings together years of experience across fitness, somatic practices, breathwork, and personal development — along with her own long-standing journey in meditation and inner work.
Her work blends physical training, nervous system awareness, and reflective coaching practices to support meaningful transformation. Through both personal exploration and working closely with clients, Lauren developed a deep interest in the connection between emotional patterns, stress physiology, and personal growth.
Today, she integrates somatic practices, breathwork, and coaching alongside strength and movement training — helping clients explore both the physical and internal dimensions of wellbeing.
Lauren is especially passionate about creating environments where people feel safe to explore growth, build resilience, and reconnect with themselves in a grounded and supportive way. She also leads the studio’s Women’s Circle gatherings, facilitating intentional spaces for connection, reflection, and shared growth among women navigating change, stress, and life transitions.
While Lauren works with a wide range of clients, her approach especially resonates with women seeking a more supportive, intuitive, and integrated path to personal development.
Gerardo Velasco, Co-Founder
Gerardo Velasco is a performance coach, somatic practitioner, and entrepreneur dedicated to helping individuals and teams unlock higher levels of clarity, resilience, and sustainable results.
With over two decades of experience in operations management, leadership development, and fitness coaching, Gerardo brings a rare integrated approach that combines physical training, nervous system regulation, mindset work, and strategic thinking. His work goes beyond workouts — guiding clients through the inner shifts that influence decision-making, consistency, relationships, and performance in both life and business.
Drawing from somatic practices, flow science, martial arts, and behavioral coaching, Gerardo helps people move from stress and overwhelm into grounded action and purposeful growth. He has worked with professionals, entrepreneurs, and teams seeking not only improved health and body composition, but also greater confidence, focus, and operational effectiveness.
As a consultant and facilitator, he applies the same principles of awareness, alignment, and intentional structure to help organizations improve communication, leadership presence, and execution. His coaching bridges inner transformation with real-world outcomes — supporting clients in building stronger bodies, clearer minds, and more efficient systems for success.
Our Philosophy
At The Somatic Shift, we believe wellness isn’t just about physical fitness.
It’s about experiencing greater freedom, clarity, and fulfillment in everyday life.
That means supporting the body through strength and movement, while also creating space to explore the internal patterns that influence how we think, feel, and respond to life.
Our work is built around three core elements:
Strength
Developing physical capacity, resilience, and confidence through intelligent training.
Nervous System Awareness
Helping the body shift out of chronic stress patterns and into greater regulation and balance.
Inner Growth
Creating space for reflection, emotional awareness, and meaningful personal development.
When these elements come together, people often experience changes that go far beyond physical results.
They feel more present, more grounded, and more capable of navigating life with clarity and confidence.
What People Experience Here
The Somatic Shift is intentionally designed to feel different from traditional fitness spaces.
Most of our offerings take place in small groups or semi-private settings so people receive individual attention while still benefiting from a supportive community.
Many members tell us they never felt fully comfortable in the gym — until they found this space.
Our environment tends to attract people who are:
● Committed to personal growth
● Interested in strengthening both body and mind
● Looking for a supportive, welcoming community
● Ready to build healthier and more intentional patterns in their lives
Whether someone begins through strength training, breathwork, coaching, or a group program, the goal is always the same:
To help people feel stronger, more connected to themselves, and more empowered in their lives.
